The Samurai practiced and were trained in a variety of martial arts. Samurai studied various different types of martial arts which include:

In some cases Jujitsu was utilized as a method of combat with those who are armed. This meant that the Samurai integrated the use of minor weapons while battling. These weapons include

- kicking
- throwing
- pinning or immobilizing
- strangling
- joint-locking
